Long in gestation, drawn out due to absence of decent drawings, detailed works drawings were finally located in January 2016. Kernow were then allocated a production slot for 2017 by a factory in China they had used before. Work on CAD drawings started in July 2016 and were signed off in December 2016. The first engineering prototype was received in February this year and has been tested ever since. It was supplied decorated by the factory based on their own research, and it was this model that was on display for the first time at the model railway exhibition at Alexandra Palace last weekend (25/26th March). Livery artwork has now been approved. The intention is to produce models of 10201 (K2701) and 10202 first (K2702). Two versions of 10203 (K2703/04) will form the second batch. Kernow MRC say that the final price – and whether they can honour the pre-production price – can only be decided closer to when these long awaited and welcome models go into production. So persistence and patience is rewarded, and we look forward to receiving these models later this year.
