Lavender Line Gala
Our friends at The Lavender Line have advised us of this forthcoming event.
The Lavender Line at Isfield Station in East Sussex is holding their October Gala on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7thOctober of this year. This is a delightful, volunteer run, standard gauge heritage railway which operates preserved steam and diesel locomotives/units (subject to availability) offering a two mile round trip from the preserved Victorian station at Isfield to Worth Halt in the parish of Little Horsted travelling through wonderful Sussex scenery.
Cinders Buffet is located in the old station building and offers breakfast, a full range of cooked meals, light lunches, tea, coffee, cold drinks, cakes, etc. A shop, selling souvenirs of your visit, books, railway related DVD’s, model railway stock, etc is located in the old waiting room on the opposite platform.
The original Victorian signal box has been restored and is now a grade ll listed building. It is open to the public, where one can view the levers and other equipment used to ensure the safe passage of trains on the line. It also displays many photographs from the days of when the railway was part of the main national network when you could travel on the railway line from Lewes to Uckfield before it was closed in 1969.
Riley’s Miniature Railway is located behind platform 2 and is a fun, not for profit, 5 inch gauge miniature railway where 100% of fares and donations are sent to the Evelina Children’s Hospital, London. If you visit, please ask about the heart warming story behind the miniature railway’s conception. (This is a story in itself if you’re interested!)
A children’s play park can be found by the station building and some visitors my be fascinated by the station’s original goods yard crane, cattle dock, coal office and water tower preserving and documenting the railway’s past.
The October Gala is being called a Miniature Steam Traction Engine and Classic Car Rally, however we are expecting full sized traction engines, miniature traction engines, vintage/classic cars, buses, vans, trucks, motorcycles, car clubs, etc. Riley’s Miniature Railway is also expecting several visiting locomotives offering rides to children and adults alike.
We will also have our Sales Stand in attendance at this event.
The event will be open from 10am til 5pm on both days. The village of Isfield and the railway station (TN22 5XB) can be found off of the A26 Lewes to Uckfield road with easy access from the south and the north, frequent buses also stop at the station from Brighton, Lewes, Uckfield and Tunbridge Wells.
