Wessex Electrics: A Final Goodbye

2424 Moves to Stewarts Lane

2424 through a snowy Stratford (London)

Thursday 8th February, a couple of inches of snow threatens to paralyse travel and normal life in the South of England and James Stearn decides to use his unexpected day off school to photograph trains.  At Stratford (London) he catches u2424 being hauled from its C6 overhaul at Ilford bound, not for store at Eastleigh, but for Stewarts Lane - note carefully the destination speculators!

All but one Wessex Electric now stored off SWT property as u2418 and u2423 were moved from Bournemouth T&RSMD to Eastleigh Works on Wednesday 18th April 2007 leaving u2416 the last Wessex Electric unit stored on South West Trains property.

The last Class 442 unit left at Bournemouth T&RSMD, u2416, was delivered to Eastleigh Works on 3rd May 2007. There is a rumour that the units in store have already been measured up for vinyl overlays - the big question is for whose livery and for how many units? There is currently informed speculation and projection about the future of Class 442 units but no definitive plan yet!
