Vep Cab Tour

All photographs on this page are by Lyn D.Brooks.

recess under desk for the driver's legs dials

Still in the drivers cab, (above left) shows the recess below the desk for the drivers legs. The lever in the middle operates the Warning Horn. (above right) a close up of the control dials, from left to right Main Reservoir/Brake Pipe Duplex gauge, Brake Cylinder gauge and Speedometer. The speedo went up to 100mph on VEPs in order, it is said, to tease drivers!

(top left) is the driver’s Sun Visor.
(top right) is the TPWS Display and the AWS/TPWS isolation cock.
(above right) The fan is anchored to the top of the CSR (Cab Secure Radio) unit.
(above left) On the right-hand side of the drivers desk are the Master Controller - i.e. reverser, and the DSD/Power Handle. The Dowty indicator flags on the black plastic behind the DSD handle are from the top: Brake Supply, MG - Motor Generator, Line - Power supply from the Third Rail, and Earth Fault. The buttons are: Overload Reset- a must in slippery conditions, Aux. Power on - i.e. to start up an EDL or push-pull Crompton, Aux. Power off - i.e. to shut down an EDL or push-pull Crompton, and Engine stop - turns everything off including the compressor on the VEP (always annoying when the button got stuck in!)
