Gatwick Express Classes 488 and 489
converted class 488 - click to view larger picture The class 488 TSOH, TFOH and TSO cars were converted from Dapol Mk2d coaches using Hurst Models (see contacts list) Gatwick Express coach underfloor parts and the appropriate car ends had recesses cut into them in which MJT (see contacts list) jumper cables  were inserted.  Etched brass door handles, grab rails  and brass wire piping has also been fitted.

The top two Class 489 GLVs were built using MJT (see contacts list) sides, cab ends, jumper cables, ventilators and bogie sides with Southern Pride (see contacts list) underframe parts grafted onto a Lima Mk1 coach, hardly any of which remains!  The top livery is that first applied when the Gatwick Express service was launched, the second livery the final "Executive" version before the Intercity livery  changed to a wider white stripe and narrower burgundy stripe over a silver-grey lower body side.  The bottom GLV was built by David Smith by converting a Hornby Mk1 coach.
