Kernow Model Rail Centre Commission a Hampshire Unit from Dapol

The Kernow Model Rail Centre has commissioned a highly detailed OO gauge ready to run 2H unit from Dapol. Delivery is expected in early 2009 and details are yet to be finalised, however they are aiming for the tooling to be flexible to accommodate Hampshire and Berkshire types and features are expected to include:

5 pole skew wound motor
Flywheels
RP25.110 wheels on 2mm axles
14.4mm back to back tolerances
26mm over axle pin points
21 pin DCC ready socket
Space for DCC sound speaker
Internal coach lighting
Cab and end unit lighting (where appropriate)
Replacement window blind decals
Painted Internal seating throughout
Painted cab detail
Super close coupling between coaches
Etched brass side grilles
Sprung buffers
Separate customer applied air pipes, etc

Liveries and prices are also still to be decided and a centre trailer car may follow. Let us hope that Dapol can now emulate, or indeed exceed, the high standards set by Hornby and Bachmann.

Jim Smith-Wright has recently received the test etches for his new kit to modify Bratchell Models Mk3 vehicles to Class 455/8. As with his 317/1 modification kit this will involve an element of scratch building to the cab front roofs. The kit will hopefully be available at the end of January, price £24 inc p&p (£20 to DEMU members). Advance views seen here!
