The Opening Ceremony of 11201 - 22nd January 2005


opening speeches are underway

At a brief ceremony attended by invited guests and visitors to the Bluebell Railway 11201 was opened to public display by Nicholas Owen, presenter of the BBC News, who is also a former Chairman of the Southern Electric Group and former Editor of the group's bi-monthly magazine Live Rail.

Seen here left, the group's Chairman Peter Staveley is delivering a  speech explaining the history of unit 3142's preservation and thanking all those involved in the dedicated hard work.

Below left, visitors to 11201 inspect the unrestored part of the coach.  The wooden bodied, steel clad, construction of railway passenger vehicles of the era can been seen.   Below right, the display area where a brief history of the Southern Electric system can be read.  Beyond the display is the SEG sales stand.
