Nicholas Owen looking out of the driving cab of 11201 One of our 4 Cor driving motor cars, 11201, is now on public display in platform 1 at Horsted Keynes station on the Bluebell Railway.   During a brief ceremony on Saturday 22nd January 2005 it was opened by Nicholas Owen, presenter of the ITN's ITV Lunchtime News, who is also a former Chairman of the Southern Electric Group and former Editor of the group's bi-monthly magazine Live Rail.   To see more about the opening please click here.

This is the first opportunity to inspect the interior of  a 4 Cor carriage since the early 1980s when the unit was withdrawn from steam hauled passenger service on the Nene Valley Railway.   The coupé is complete.   In the small saloon, one seating bay has been restored and all seats and panels have been replaced.  Other seating bays have been arranged with exhibition displays to show the construction of the vehicle and different stages of restoration.  It is hoped the car will be open during  Bluebell Railway running hours at weekends and on public holidays.  The only other 4 Cor motor car on public display is at the National Railway Museum at York, however museum visitors can only inspect the exterior there.

11201 was moved on Tuesday 18th January 2005 from St. Leonards Engineering, where it had been restored, to the Bluebell Railway .  It was tripped to Horsted Keynes two days later.  To see more of the move please click here.
