| April 2004 LOTTERY AWARD BOOST FOR SOUTHERN ELECTRIC PRESERVATION Southern Electric Group members are celebrating today after receiving a grant of nearly £5,000 from the National Lotterys "Awards for All" programme. This grant will fund restoration work on preserved 1930s "4 Cor" motor coach 11201 from unit No. 3142. The roof will be repaired and the passenger accommodation and driver's cab restored. The coach will be repainted in 1930s Southern Railway livery. Once this has been completed, 11201 will be put on public display at Horsted Keynes on the Bluebell Railway in Sussex. Southern Electric Group Chairman Peter Staveley said: "We are delighted to have received this award. For a small group like us this is a lot of money and it will enable us to put our "4 Cor" motor coach on public view for the first time in almost 20 years! 11201 will be on display to the large number of people who visit the Bluebell Railway." The coach will be open to the public on most Bluebell operating days, to allow visitors to see inside, including the driver's cab. Displays explaining the history and technical significance of the Southern Electric system will be included.
