Southern Belle Railtour

The tour required a lot of work from many people. Getting a Southeastern train to Weymouth was not a simple matter, not least via lines where the only passenger user is Eurostar. Southeastern staff were in the lead, ably assisted by colleagues at Southern and with vital co-operation from South West Trains, Network Rail and others. Many people from the train companies and SEG helped on the day. The catering team and the train cleaners who worked a very long day, accompanying the train throughout, deserve a special mention. It is particularly good to see that on the privatised railway, people from so many different parts of the old Southern Region can still work together and pull out the stops for a very special occasion. A very substantial sum was raised for charities, The Railway Children , Kent Air Ambulance and our own Southern Electric Heritage. A heartfelt thank you to all concerned.

This text is a version of a report which will appear in a forthcoming edition of our bi-monthly members' magazine Live Rail.

The tour's weary but happy travellers wend their way home from London Bridge station, save for the hardy taking the trip back to Ramsgate!
