Sussex Slammer Railtour

The tour was not timetabled to be particularly fast but a fair speed was gained whilst on the Coastway Lines west and east of Brighton. Here the tour, headed by 1805, speeds through West Worthing.

Awaiting the driver to change ends at Preston Park

Direct train movements between west and east coastway lines at Brighton station are only possible with a four car (or shorter) train using platform 3. As our tour was three times longer we headed north so we could reverse in platform 1 at Preston Park, an unusual move in itself. Railtourers were told not to alight here as our stop was only to allow the driver to change ends but some seized the opportunity to grab an extra photo. We do not think anyone was left behind!

Some of those slam doors we were celebrating. 3514 was the only Vep ever to receive Southern's green and white livery.

Lovers Walk has been the depot at which Southern's slam door Mk1 EMUs have ended their careers and as we entered Brighton station we glimpsed Veps 3530 and 3535 awaiting their fate.
