The staff tour departed and arrived on
time in both directions though with some minor late running, especially on the return
journey due to preceding services, in between. One notable feature of this tour was the humorous verbal and visual display information given. At Clandon the service was announced as a Scotrail service to Weymouth, the destination in itself being unusual for a commuter station. At Haslemere it was announced as a Mid-Hants steam train, at Brockenhurst it became a Virgin service to the Kyle of Lochalsh and at Bournemouth the display correctly showed Weymouth but the announcement had it as a GNER service. Kyle of Lochalsh also featured on the displays at Dorchester and upon arrival at Weymouth. However, for its departure from Weymouth the destination had become Paris Nord! As this was a celebratory tour many of the railway staff passengers partied all the way back to Waterloo. (left) The leading cab of 1498 looking through to the

Unfortunately the indicator at Dorchester South is not clear in this photograph but on closer inspection on a higher resolution version it does indeed say Kyle of Lochalsh. photograph by R.M. Brumé |
