40th Anniversary of Bournemouth Line Electrification
In addition to the weekend just passed (7th/8th July) marking the 40th anniversary of the end of steam on the Southern Region it also, apparently without celebration, marked the 40th anniversary of "full" electric working to Bournemouth. Though as history has recorded the full electric service took some time to establish . To celebrate this we publish three photographs by SEG member Russell Wykes of successive generations of Bournemouth line electric stock relatively in the same location, in this case Brockenhurst. Top to bottom, 4 Rep 2007 on 4th October 1987, 5 Wes 2420 on 9th April 2006 - both on up workings - and on a down working Desiro 444036, also on 9th April 2006.
