Thameslink Programme brewing!
Thameslink Programme teabag leaflet front Thameslink Programme teabag leaflet rear

The publicity for the Thameslink Upgrade Project has been ramping up during October 2008 with a gimmick or two, with leaflets with bottles of water and tea bags (see left) being handed out to passengers, plus a competition to win a Caribbean Cruise. It is also believed two class 319 units will be decked out in the Thameslink Programme's rather garish rainbow livery - as on the pictured leaflet. By comparison it could make the former Network SouthEast "toothpaste" livery seem restrained!

If you can make out the small print to the left you can find out more, or visit the Thameslink Programme website.

Such gimmicks can be risky and backfire, if say, the tea tastes awful! The webmaster has yet to try his sample...

The Government has announced that the long overdue upgrade and expansion of the Thameslink network, first mooted as "Thameslink 2000", will go ahead. Costing £5.5billion the programme will enhance the frequency and capacity of services that operate north-south through central London. Capacity will be increased by allowing 12-carriage operations and 24 trains per hour in both directions through the centre of London . The expanded Thameslink network will serve a greater number of stations north and south of London and will provide relief to currently congested railway and underground services. The full programme will delivered by the end of 2015 but significant enhancements will be in place by the end of 2011, including the ability to run 12-car trains along the Midland Main Line and through central London.
