Drawings for Southern Electric modelling

Any drawing, let alone a good one, is a useful reference source when building a model.  Unfortunately, drawings of Southern Electric stock, whether they be scale drawings for modellers or dimensioned works drawings used by the real railway, are not that easy to come by.  The below might be able to guide you to a suitable drawing or source of drawings.  In the case of commercial drawings you are advised to contact the supplier to establish what is currently available and the cost.  If a drawing is not available, scaling from a good, preferably “broadside”, photograph is an alternative technique.  A good set of photographs, in addition to a drawing, is also highly desirable for reference when building a model. A two dimensional photograph can often help clarify two dimensional detail on a drawing. Measuring dimensions off a scale drawing is very prudent advice since accompanying printed dimensions may not be correct nor agree. As with all research, having as many different sources as possible available and cross checking the information, is highly advisable. Errors and misunderstandings can and do happen, even on official works drawings.
