Local groups


All meetings will commence at 19:30 and will consist of 2 sessions of 40 minutes with a 15 minute interval.

The future of the Institute is in some doubt, therefore the 2023 meetings are subject to confirmation.

6 Sept Martin Petch presents his classic slide show ‘The rise and fall and rise of the tram’, illustrated with a range of views taken around Europe.

4 Oct   Stephen Bigley presents a talk on Railways in the North of England.

1 Nov  AGM followed by members’ digital images.

6 Dec   ‘Mixed Railways’: Martyn Davies shares more of his slide collection.

3 Jan   Mike Russell – TBC.

7 Feb   Mark Greening – subject to be confirmed.

7 Mar John Laker will share some more of his ever-popular tram ciné library.

4 Apr  Eric Nicholass on the Talyllyn Railway.

2 May Bob Hodges presents more live action from his tramway DVD series – programme TBA.

6 June Members’ slides.

Guests are welcome to join the meetings, so please encourage your friends to join us.

The South Hampshire Branch, in conjunction with the Southern area of the Light Rail Transit Association, normally hold their joint meetings at The Eastleigh Railway Institute in Romsey Road, SO50 9FE and start at 19:30, on the first Tuesday of every month. Anyone with an interest in railways and tramways is very welcome. The venue is a short walk from the railway and bus stations and there is ample parking nearby.

There is a charge of £3.00 to cover meeting costs and light refreshments are available at the Institute. Visitors and prospective new members are invited to attend.  Providing there are no further restrictions the following meetings will be held at the Southwick Community Centre. BN42 4TE between 7.30 & 10 pm.

October   10th  A further selection of Southern & BR coaches with Mike King

November 14th  B.R in the 1980s part 2. More slides from Andrew Marshall’s collection.

December 12th  Member’s evening plus the annual raffle.

All meetings normally take place in the DEALL Room at Southwick Community Centre, Southwick Street, Southwick, Sussex, BN42 4TE (a short walk from Southwick Railway Station) and commence at 19:30, finishing around 22:00. There is limited car parking on site and opposite. Entry is free to members but a charge of £3.00, to help with expenses, is requested from visitors.
