southeastern railway and Rail 200 markings have been added to a modified version of the Network South East livery.

Rail Minister Lord Peter Hendy opens the curtains to unveil the nameplate.

The founder of Network SouthEast Chris Green and Lord Peter Hendy strike a pose! It has been reported that Chris Green was unaware the unit was being named after him. Chris Green reflected on the launch of NSE and the subsequent plans for and introduction of the Networkers, which were state of the art at the time, with aluminium bodies, regenerative braking, internal CIS and a light modern interior to help bring more people onto the trains (by comparison with the slam door vehicles that they replaced). And on the travails of getting them into service which required power supply upgrades working with infrastructure teams. He mentioned that the Rail Minister at the time had been present at the NSE launch at Waterloo and had been supportive of the investment plan for the order of 672 coaches. Chris thanked all those involved with their introduction, including getting the different sub-classes to work with other, which was initially a problem. Many think that marking Chris Green’s considerable leadership of, and the success of, Network SouthEast is long overdue.

Guests at the event were serenaded by the southeastern choir.
